Description

The ShoulderDolly® "Makes Lifting Easier" for anyone who needs to move anything big, bulky or heavy. It's great for moving furniture and appliances. Home owners, delivery teams, and warehouse workers will be able to lift up to 800 lbs using the ShoulderDolly®. The ShoulderDolly® uses your legs and shoulders to lift items, making the load feel lighter. The kit included everything two people need - there are 2 one-size-fits-all harnesses, and one 12' long by 5" wide lifting strap. The patented 5" buckle allows for unlimited adjustments in lifting, allowing movers to lift items up to 9' in length. The ShoulderDolly® works for both men and women, regardless of height. It's ideal for moving appliances, couches, king size mattresses, and countertops. The ShoulderDolly® allows your hands and arms to be free to open doors, hold onto handrails, or to stabilize the object. It is ergonomically designed to allow movers to stand upright when going up or down stairs. The ShoulderDolly® helps avoid damage to walls, floor and doors that are common when using hand trucks. The recommended carrying capacity is up to 800 lbs, however, that is subject to the lifters ability. If the item is 800 lbs, each person will need to lift approximately 400 lbs each.

Steps To Ensure A Safe And Successful Shoulder Dolly® Lift:

  • Have both lifters put the harness on over their heads - make sure the buckle is in front of you and the word "FRONT" is facing out (not towards your body). The "X" on the back of the harness should be in the middle of your back.
  • Place the 12' x 5" long lifting strap under the bulk of the weight of the object you wish to move. You can either tip the object and slide the strap under, or if the object has legs, you can slide it under from one side. The strap should be under the majority of the weight - Eg: place towards the back of a couch.
  • Position your body into a semi-squat by bending your knees - the deeper you squat, the higher the item will be lifted. Keep your back in an upright straight position, don't lean toward the object.
  • Weave the lifting strap through the buckle - Start with webbing going under the buckle, then weave behind the larger metal rod (closest to your body), then over the top and then thread it down between the two rods. Pull the webbing through the buckle until tight.
  • To adjust the length of strap - turn the buckle horizontal to the ground, then pull on the top piece of the strap to make it tighter or the long end to make it shorter. When the buckle is vertical, the buckle will lock and allow you to stand up and lift.
  • Adjust the length of the strap so that when you stand up, there is some tension on your shoulders. If one person is taller, then they'll have more webbing from the floor to the buckle than the shorter person.
  • There may be excess webbing after you lift the object. To ensure that you don't trip over the excess webbing, tie it around your body, or tuck it between the harness and your body.
  • With straight arms, push against the object you are moving (VERY IMPORTANT!) this will keep your back in proper ergonomic alignment and put the weight of the object on your legs and shoulders.
  • Simultaneously push against the object with your arms until they are straight, and slowly straighten your legs - balancing the object with your arms and hands.
  • Communicate at all times with your lifting partner.

Stairs - Tips and Tricks:

Moving is difficult... and maneuvering stairs is the most technical and awkward type of move of them all....Here are a few tips and tricks to help ease the pain:

Using the ShoulderDolly® going up/down stairs is an advanced technique and takes practice.

  • Lift the object at least 8" off the ground in order to clear the height of the stair.
  • The person at the bottom of the stairs MUST keep their arms in a straight and locked position on the object. If you don't do this, the item will gravitate towards your face and chest.
  • If one person is significantly taller, have the taller person on the bottom.
  • Communication is key. Make sure the lead person is counting off the stairs to the other.
  • Try to keep the item vertical. Here are a few advanced techniques in order to accomplish that:
  • Have the top person take their hand and place it on top of the item and pull it towards them.
  • At the same time, have the same person, use their knee/foot to push against the bottom of the object (near the moving strap). The item should slide just enough to help level the item and take the pressure off the bottom person's arms/wrists.
  • If there is a landing, it may be helpful to set the item down and readjust the strap.
  • Make sure to check the height of the ceiling on the stairs. You may need to flip the item on its side in order to not hit the ceiling.
  • The ShoulderDolly® can move items up to 10' in length. Such as a 9' couch, a king size mattress, or something as small as a nightstand. Make sure you tie up the excess webbing so you don't trip.
  • The recommended carrying capacity is up 800 lbs*. The items weight will be split between two people. Eg: If the item is 400 lbs, each person will be lifting approximately 200 lbs each. (*Subjective to the lifters ability)
  • Do not expect the ShoulderDolly® to make maneuvering stairs easy... However, the ShoulderDolly® will make it easier than using just your hands/arms.
