What is Fatwood®?

Simply nature's best fire starter.

Born from the wood of old pine stumps left for waste after logging, it is made from splitting the stumps of pine trees that contain a high concentration of natural resin. As the stumpwood hardens over time, the resin or sap concentrates to create an all-natural, 100% organic, chemical-free fire starter.

Our Fatwood® comes from non-rainforest areas of Central America. It's part of our dedication to sustainable forestry. Live trees are never cut for our Fatwood® and we harvest only non-endangered pine species.

The stumps are split into sticks approximately 8″ in length and 3/4″ in diameter. We've found this size to be a convenient and ideal size for practically all applications. Whether using it in the fireplace, the backyard BBQ, a pellet stove, or even in the woods while camping, Fatwood® Firestarter is the ideal choice. Yes, all Fatwood® is kindling, but not all kindling will ever be Fatwood®.

All Natural:

• Fatwood® Firestarter consists of two parts: pinewood and the resin created in that very tree; It's 100% all-natural. As the tree matures, this natural resin moves downward, collecting in the stump.
• With this high concentration of natural resin, we don't need to add chemicals or additives like so much of our competition.
• All we need is two of our sticks to do the talking for us and, in a matter of minutes, we're usually roaring.

Easy to Light

• Light one end of each stick
• Bask in the warm, flickering glow of your success

Fireplace

Because Fatwood® is safe, quick and so easy to use, only two sticks are needed get a roaring fire going. By using just two sticks of Fatwood®, instead of the hassle of crumbling newspaper or gathering kindling, you’ll spend less time starting the fire and more time enjoying it.

• Crisscross two Fatwood® sticks on a grate so that the flame will move up the sticks.
• Position seasoned split firewood on top of the Fatwood® Firestarter sticks. It’s best to leave a bit of room between the Fatwood® and the firewood to allow for airflow.
• Light one end of each Fatwood® stick.
• Be safe! Make sure you replace the screen in front of the fireplace.

Wood and Pellet Stoves

Fatwood® is the ideal firestarter for wood or pellet stoves. Since instructions for individual models of wood and pellet stoves differ, please consult your particular stove’s instruction manual for specific details and safety questions.

Wood Stoves For most wood stoves:

• Place two Fatwood® sticks into the chamber.
• Place your seasoned hardwood on the sticks, allowing some room for airflow
• Light one end of each Fatwood® stick
• Adjust the damper and enjoy your wood stove fire.

Pellet stoves For most wood pellet stoves:

• Place two Fatwood® sticks into the burn pot.
• Light one of the ends of each Fatwood® stick. NOTE: Depending on the stove type (manual or automatic) this step may not be required. The operating instructions for your specific stove will vary.
• Start the stove and monitor it as the auger begins to drop wood pellets into the burn pot. The Fatwood® sticks will quickly ignite and spread the fire to the surrounding pellets more evenly.
• Adjust the damper and enjoy your wood pellet stove fire.

Grills:

Because Fatwood® is 100% all-natural with no chemicals or petroleum additives, there’s no chemical taste added to your grilled foods. Use Fatwood® Firestarter with a quality product like our 100% all Natural Lump Charcoal and you can cook knowing that no harmful chemicals or toxins are released into your food.

• Arrange your favorite lump charcoal or briquettes to form a pyramid. Insert 2 to 3 pieces of Fatwood® Firestarter through the pile so that the ends of the wood stick out 1 to 2 inches from the pyramid.
• Light the ends of the Fatwood® sticks and leave the fire uncovered for 10-15 minutes.
• When coals are covered with a thin layer of white ash and the Fatwood® sticks have completely burned away, your fire is ready.
