Attract your favorite backyard songbirds and keep squirrels away a new way naturally, with the extra kick of chili peppers! Blazing Hot Blend combines the most preferred seeds of backyard songbirds with a patented Habenero chili oil formula. Habanero chilies have up to 10X more heat than Cayenne, so squirrels and raccoons will hurry away and think twice before returning. Mammals hate the spicy taste and will leave the seed alone, so birds can eat in peace.

Blend contains bird-favored black oil sunflower seeds and hearts; cracked corn; and white proso millet. Bluebirds, jays, cardinals, chickadees, and goldfinches are especially fond of this mix, but it attracts a wide variety of birds.

Please remember chili peppers are a strong irritant to eyes, nose, and skin. Wash thoroughly with soap and water after handling. Keep out of reach of children.

Scoville Ratings of Peppers
Did you ever wonder how chili peppers are rated and why they are sometimes used to keep mammals away from wild bird seed? Here's your answer:

The spicy heat index of peppers is measured in Scoville Heat Units (SHU), which assesses the amount of capsaicin in peppers. Capsaicin is the compound in chilies that makes them spicy. Cayenne peppers have between 30,000 and 50,000 SHU, while Habaneros have between 100,000 and 350,000 SHU - for about 10 times more piquancy.

For years, people have been sprinkling Cayenne for mammal control - some dog owners sprinkle Cayenne in existing holes to discourage further digging, and people feeding wild birds sprinkle Cayenne or Tabasco on bird seed, because it is thought that birds do not have the chemical receptor mammals have to sense piquancy, so they are not repelled by it. Since Habaneros have much more spice power, mammals, like squirrels tend to avoid anything that contains them.
